#5 of 10 – Mistakes made in referral marketing

#5 – Fail to ask permission.

What does that even mean?

Quite simply it is okay to talk with your client about mutual referrals.  “Is it okay if I ask you about people that you know that could be helped in a similar way to how we have helped you?” It’s often easier to ask permission than actually ask.

If they can’t think of anyone at that moment in time (and most times they will say they can’t, which will be addressed in #10), the importance is that you have permission to ask them again in the future. Don’t make yourself a pain in the back side by asking every time you meet – but do ask occasionally see #1

The chances are your clients know other people in similar positions to them, both in terms of job title and issues they face, who fit into your ideal client list.
